Horse power is not an issue with this pump as it will pump water for long distances through 2" hoses as long as the hoses are open ended. This is not a pressure pump but a volume pump.

This water pump cannot be reduced. The minimum suction and discharge hose it can be used with is 2". To reduce this size would cause back pressure and would cause damage to the pump.

The difference between a semi-trash pump and a trash pump is the size of the solids that each can handle. With a 2" discharge the semi-trash pump can handle up to 5/8" solids and a trash pump can handle up to 1" solids. The max pressure output that would come out of the outlet would be 42 pounds per square inch.

Question

northern 2" semi-trash pump with Honda 160cc engine

Can the above pump be used to pump water from shallow well at water level 15' through a PVC pipe(1 1/4") using appropriate reducing couplings? To reduce the GPM rate, would reducing the throttle speed be the solution?

Thanks, Jim

This water pump has a 23 foot lift and would have no problem pulling from the shallow well pump from 15 feet. You can use the PVC pipe reduced to the 1 1/4" with the reducer couplings on the suction side. You would not be able to reduce the pump on the discharge side. You would not be able reduce the throttle or the GPM. The pump would not prime if you reduce the GPM.

The max PSI rating is going to be right at the pump. This pump is designed to deliver 10, 010 GPH, through a 2" hose. Providing to much back pressure may cause damage to the pump.

This semi-trash pump cannot be used to transfer wet leaves. A trash pump can be used for that application provided that a sufficient amount of water is also being transferred along with the leaves. Click the links below to view trash pumps.
