This is a submersible pump and must be put inside your tank. It draws the water from the bottom and pushes out the side discharge. It has a 1 1/4" discharge if you want to use a pipe for this. Otherwise, you can use the included 3/4" adapter to hook it up to a standard garden hose for discharge. It's rated output is rated for the 1 1/4" discharge.

The Wayne Submersible Utility Pump would not be designed for continuous in a small pond. Northern Tool carries several pumps designed specifically for use in ponds, and will vary depending on how many gallons per hour you would like to pump. See link below for 2 of the pumps.

Question

Can this be used with an Electric Pressure washer?

I have a barrel that is filled with rain water. If I submerge the pump in the barrel and connect a garden hose to the pressure washer, will the pump fail if there is not a continuous flow of water? An example is washing a vehicle. If I spray the vehicle first with the pressure washer, wash the hood with a sponge while the pressure washer is idle, then spray again and repeat as necessary, will this pump work for this application?

Staff Answer
The Wayne Submersible Utility Pump can be used with a pressure washer, but would have some limitations. It pumps 5 GPM, so it would be able to run a pressure washer with a maximum of 4 GPM. The discharge is 1 1/4" and would need to be reduced to 3/4" for use with a garden hose. The pump, however, would not be able to run while the pressure washer is not in use for periods longer than few minutes. Too much back pressure would be created and could burn out the motor.
